To start, here's an introduction:
Now Lets start. Here are 3 things I've learned on my journey to become the special:
- "The only thing anyone needs to be special is to believe that you can be." -Vitruvius
All Emmet had to do was believe that he was the special to become the special. All I had to do was believe that I could succeed in AP Lit, and I would (hopefully along with the AP Exam as well)
This advice specifically applies to some of my first works in this class AKA The Book Thief Unit. Over the summer, I wasn't sure if I had what it would take to first of all get into the class and then keep up with it through the year, but I knew it was something I wanted to try anyways. This paper will always be one of my favorites because I remember getting so excited over the summer to hear that I did good on it.
2. Not Everything has to be perfect and that's okay.
Emmet lived in the City of Bricksberg, where Lord Business wanted everyone and everything to be perfect. When he left, he realized that being perfect isn't what matters. I learned that it's okay to mess up every once in a while, and that my uniqueness can be used to my advantage.
Here is an example from the Metamorphosis Unit. This was from the project where we had to make a creative character piece of artwork. Here we had the creative freedom to make basically whatever we wanted, and because my project wasn't perfect --the way I wanted it-- I think it came out better in the end.
3. Analysis is everything.
While this isn't a direct theme in the movie, it's still something that appears and can be applied to the film. Emmet has to really discover the truth about his world to be able to make a difference. In AP Lit, I had to analyze a lot of things to the point where it is natural for me to pick out things while reading or watching movies for fun.
During the Dante's Inferno Unit, I got really into analysis, more so than any other literature we have read. Here is a hand out provided by Mrs. Rutan that helped and is great advice in general for reading.
What I'll take with me
For college, I will take all of these lessons with me, right along with my Blu-Ray copy of Lego Movie.
Most important of all, remember that Everything is Awesome. And here's a little thing for all of you to know:
